Retaining Wall, Flagstone Walkway and Cobblestone Edging Done Right

A lot of yards just kind of exist. No real flow, no function - just space that isn't working for the family living there. That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The layout needed structure, the ground needed support, and there was no clear way to move through the space without stepping on dirt or fighting the grade.

We started with the retaining wall. Using large granite-style block, we built a curved wall that holds the slope in place and gives the yard a clean, defined edge. It's not just cosmetic - that wall is doing real work keeping soil where it belongs. From there, we laid a flagstone walkway running the length of the yard. Each piece was fitted together by hand, puzzle-style, to create a path that's both usable and sharp-looking.

The cobblestone edging was the finishing touch on the softscaping side. It wraps cleanly around the tree bed and separates the mulch from the lawn in a way that stays put season after season. Fresh mulch was laid throughout the planting beds to lock in moisture and give everything a clean, finished look. It's the kind of detail that pulls the whole yard together.

What we ended up with is a yard that actually works. There's a clear path, the slope is supported, and every bed is defined. No expensive materials, no overbuilt design - just solid hardscaping and softscaping choices made with the budget and the family in mind. Practical, clean, and built to hold up long-term.
