Sometimes a yard just needs a hard reset. Plants get overgrown, the soil profile goes flat, and what used to look intentional starts looking like an afterthought. That's exactly what we were dealing with here - a front garden bed running alongside a curved walkway that had simply run its course.

We started from scratch. That meant pulling out the old plants entirely, regrading the soil to restore proper slope and drainage, and then building the beds back up with fresh plantings chosen to actually thrive in the space. No shortcuts, no just-plug-something-in approach. The regrading step is one people often skip, but it matters - poorly graded beds hold water in the wrong places and set new plants up to fail before they even get going.

What we ended up with is a bed that feels intentional again. Hydrangeas anchor the center island around the existing boulder feature. Lower-growing shrubs and perennials fill in around them, giving the bed a layered look without crowding the walkway. The drip irrigation lines were also run through the bed to keep everything properly hydrated without overwatering.

This is the kind of softscaping work that adds real value to a property. It's not just about looks - it's about getting the structure right so the plants have room to establish and fill in over time. Good bones make all the difference, and that starts with the soil work before a single plant goes in the ground.

We handle residential landscape maintenance and softscaping projects like this regularly. Whether it's a single tired bed or a full front yard, the process is the same - assess what's there, remove what isn't working, and rebuild it the right way.
