A bare, uneven yard is one of the most frustrating things to deal with as a homeowner. No grass, no usable outdoor space - just dirt. That was exactly the situation here, and it's more common than you'd think. The good news is there's a straightforward process to fix it, and the results speak for themselves.

We started with grading. Before a single roll of sod goes down, the ground has to be properly prepared. We used a Bobcat with a soil conditioner attachment to break up and level the surface. This step matters more than most people realize. If the grade is off - even slightly - you end up with drainage problems, low spots that collect water, and sod that struggles to take root. Getting it right up front saves a lot of headaches later.

Once the ground was prepped and graded smooth across the full 4,000 square feet, the crew got to work laying sod. This is where the softscaping side of what we do really comes into play. Fresh sod gives you an immediately usable lawn with a healthy, established root base - no waiting around for seed to fill in, no patchy coverage. The whole crew worked the area together, rolling out and fitting each section carefully so the finished lawn would be tight, even, and clean.

The existing rock borders and mature landscaping surrounding the space were kept intact throughout the whole process. That's worth noting - heavy equipment in a finished yard can do damage if you're not careful about it. We kept everything clean and protected what was already there. The end result is a full, lush lawn that fits right into the overall landscape rather than looking like an afterthought.

Jobs like this are a good example of how grading and softscaping work together. You can't just drop sod on a rough, uneven surface and expect it to thrive. The prep work underneath is what makes the finished lawn actually last. If your yard is sitting bare and you're not sure where to start, this is exactly the kind of work we do.
