This one had a lot of moving parts. We installed 12 irrigation zones, hauled in and compacted 85 tons of recycled asphalt, and handled the full soil prep - tilling, soil testing, and fresh dirt brought in to get the ground ready for everything going on top of it.
Here's the thing most people don't think about: what's underneath matters just as much as what you plant or build on top. If the soil isn't right, if the base isn't compacted properly, if water doesn't get delivered where it needs to go - everything above it suffers. Grass struggles, plants die back, and surfaces break down faster than they should.
The irrigation layout alone took serious planning. Twelve zones means making sure every area of the property gets the right amount of water without overlap or dry spots. Combine that with the grading work and soil prep, and you're looking at a property that's been set up to actually perform long-term - not just look good for a season.
We use a Bobcat mini excavator for tight trench work like this. It lets us get clean, precise lines through areas where a larger machine would tear things up more than necessary. The result is less disruption to the surrounding yard and cleaner work overall.
Getting the foundation right takes more time upfront, but it pays off every single year after. Whether it's irrigation, grading, soil work, or all three - we approach every job with the same mindset: build it right so it lasts.
